His first love

February 28, 2020

Forever ago, a little boy asked his mom and dad

Can I play basketball?

So a ball was placed in his hands

To travel with sometimes

To dribble others

To protect from the hands of defenders

His shoelaces seemed to never stay tied

While he ran his fastest and played his hardest

He took in criticism and accolades

And his parents grew to understand

This game was his first love

And that love is shared by his best friends

The older we get the luckier we are

To close chapters and collect memories

Until the clock ticks down to zero

This is the tenth (#10) in a series of 100-word posts I plan to write. This post is dedicated to all Nebraska high school basketball players getting ready to enter post season play. Especially the senior players and their parents.

My ultimate goal is to create 100 of these 100-word posts in no set time frame. Thanks for following along!

Notice the normal

November 25, 2018

Peering and pouring into a screen by

watching videos, liking posts, gaming with friends,

swallowing shows, debating with others

and building an online persona

can provide fulfillment only to a point.

But you will also learn dear boy and girl

…that touching a phone, keyboard or controller

pales in comparison to holding another’s hand

…that dreaming of exploring far-away lands

may not satisfy your soul like walking in your

own backyard watching nature unfold

…that time spent thinking about your purpose

is time that could change the course of another’s life

…if you just looked up

and noticed the normal.

This is the fifth (#5) in a series of 100-word posts I plan to write. My ultimate goal is to create 100 of these posts in no set time frame. Thanks for following along!

May we be

November 11, 2018

A friend recently reminded me why we are called human beings

and not human doings.

If we get too caught up in the doing

at the sacrifice of forgetting about the being,

we run risk of missing beauty in the everyday.

May we not envy what others have

but instead embrace what life has given us.

May our sense of self rise by giving freely

instead of waiting for external approval to validate our efforts.

May we understand that a simple smile and a kind hello

mean more than a portfolio of perfection.

May we be

more than we do.

This is the fourth (#4) in a series of 100-word posts I plan to write. My ultimate goal is to create 100 of these posts in no set time frame. Thanks for following along!
